<![CDATA[I would have sent an email to this blogger, but there's no contact information available on their blog (what's up with that?), so I'll respond to their post with my own.

Daily notes are useless. The value of a note is directly proportional to the number of times it is visited. That value is exponentiated each time a note is shared. Daily notes aren't revisited and they aren't shared.

First, daily notes are only useless if you don't have a system or workflow that makes use of them.

Second, they don't have to be shared to be useful. Depending on the system/workflow you have, they still have value. But the key is, you need to have system/workflow in the first place. Besides, unless the blog/website is setup like a daily journal, nobody is sharing their daily notes to the public. Typically what people would do is, write a bigger piece by expanding on ideas they wrote down in their daily notes.!--more--

Third, having dates attached to specific thoughts, ideas, events, etc... can be helpful when 6 months into the future, you're trying to understand why something is broken again. The dates give you context and clues as to what could have been happening back then. Sure, you can include all these notes into a single note, but then that means you already have a system/workflow that works for you.

I have one note that I visit all the time when I am working. It's a single Markdown file that I constantly update. It's essentially a to-do list that just helps me juggle all the things that I need to track. I call it focus.md

This is the system/workflow that works for you. This is why you don't feel the need to write daily notes.

---

Sidenote: I understand wanting to blog anonymously, I do it in this blog too. But not having contact information seems a bit odd. It's like you don't want your ideas challenged or even discussed.

#NoteTaking #Blogging]]>

Is AI Supposed To Help Us Or Replace Us?

<![CDATA[Who asked for all these AI bots, apps, APIs, etc... to be developed in the first place? All I can see from my side are:

College graduates are in trouble of landing jobs, because entry-level stuff they are supposed to work on, can now be offloaded to AIs.
Senior level employees on the other hand, are now expected to learn how to use AI, so that they can offload menial tasks to an AI, and work on other stuff. So instead of decreasing the amount of work they have, it actually makes management think they now have more time to work on something else, thereby increasing their workload.
AIs that feed off large datasets are vulnerable to bad data getting into the system.
In a similar vein, there is also the chance that people's PII data or other sensitive data can make it into an AI's dataset.!--more--
With the advent of AIs that can generate beautiful images and artwork, the real artists with the skills to create beautiful art can now be relegated to the sidelines. To add insult to injury, it is entirely possible that their art was part of the dataset that the AI was working off. So not only are their jobs in jeopardy, their artworks are being stolen too, "remixed" into a different image.
Musicians or actors don't need to be alive for their voice or image to be used in new media. I once heard an AI produced cover, of a popular song, from a popular rock vocalist who has already passed away. Technologically amazing, yes? But should we be doing this kind of stuff, no!
In the previous US election, we dealt with fake news. I like to think we are over that now. But hold your horses, because in this coming election, you have to deal with AI generated news, and it will be even harder to tell if its fake or not. FML.
There's probably more that I missed. But is the list above, taken together, not insanity already?

From my admittedly narrow perspective, the only field I see where AI can be of help, is in the medical field and maybe the socio-economic field. If it doesn't replace people's jobs and still improves the lives of everyone, then that is a good outcome.

But if it does the opposite. If it takes away jobs, while making corporations rich, then we need to ask ourselves: Is the net gain/benefits we get from using AI, a worthwhile trade over a world where services are rendered by real human beings? You know, people like you and me? I think not.

]]>

Like we cannot even have a difference of opinion.

Everyone is expected to exhibit tolerance for everyone else's beliefs, but hold on, that only applies if those beliefs are acceptable to a group of people who wield the power online.

Where is the freedom of speech in that?]]>

Pick an exercise that you are interested in, do it for 5 reps, then see how you feel after. If you feel like you could do more next time, then do a little more later in the day, or the next day. The point is, you need to build up your body to be able to handle multiple reps of a certain exercise. You cannot just go all in and force yourself to do 30 push-ups a day just to see what will happen. I'm telling you from experience, you'll get repetitive strain injury. Take it slow and build up from there.]]>
